Do You Need A Car Immobiliser As Well As A Car Alarm?...

The answer to this question about a car immobiliser largely depends on how old your car is. If you bought it before 1997 then it may not be fitted with one, but all cars bought after that date will have a car immobiliser as standard. The question then is more whether you should buy a car that has a car immobiliser or not.
A car immobiliser does offer a second and much better line of defence against thieves than one which does not have a car immobiliser and relies just on an alarm to ward them off. If a car is fitted with a car alarm and a car immobiliser, the thief may be able to disable the alarm, but they still would not be able to get past the car immobiliser since they would need the key to be able to start the car properly.
This is therefore a very good argument for making sure your car keys are always kept safely out of sight. If a thief is able to steal those then they can easily get past both a car alarm and a car immobiliser without any problem whatsoever.
When it comes to buying a new car, one of your key questions should be whether or not it has a car immobiliser fitted. If it does and it is one of recognised quality, then you may well find that your car insurance premiums will be lower as a result. Make sure you know whether this will be the case before you agree to buy a car with a car immobiliser fitted, and find out what make it is.
In short, having a car immobiliser will keep your car much safer and more immune to the prospect of being stolen. So it doesn’t just ward off thieves, it wards off the hassle and inconvenience they leave behind too.
